"It was a great tour. Miquel and Celia were wonderful guides. Very informative and approach. They provided lots of information about Kata Tjuṯa and the local indigenous communities and traditions. Breakfast was also good and plentiful. Highly recommended."

Yulara Pickup Guide
Tours from Ayers Rock Resort: Pickups, Start Times and Getting Around
Where each tour collects you, how early sunrise pickups are, what the free shuttle does and does not do, and which tours fit a short stay.
If you are staying at Ayers Rock Resort, you do not need a car for most Uluru tours: almost every listing on this site includes pickup from the resort’s hotels, and Uluru is only about 20 minutes’ drive from Yulara. What changes from tour to tour is the pickup list and the hour. For an afternoon at the rock with dinner at sunset, the Emu Run Uluru day tour with sunset BBQ collects from four resort stops, from $230 per person and rated 4.6 from 346 reviews.
Which tours collect from which hotels
Ayers Rock Resort covers most of Yulara: Sails in the Desert, Desert Gardens Hotel, Emu Walk Apartments, the Outback Hotel and Outback Lodge, The Lost Camel Hotel and Ayers Rock Campground. Tour listings name their pickup points in different ways, so here is what each one states.
| Tour | Pickup points the listing names |
|---|---|
| Emu Run day tour with sunset BBQ | Sails in the Desert, Desert Gardens Hotel, Outback Hotel (Lodge listed separately), Ayers Rock Campground |
| AAT Kings Kings Canyon full day | Ayers Rock Campground, Outback Pioneer Hotel & Lodge, Desert Gardens Hotel, Sails in the Desert |
| AAT Kings Field of Light sunrise | Sails in the Desert, Desert Gardens Hotel, Outback Pioneer Bar & Bottle shop, Ayers Rock Campground |
| Uluru Segway Tours (both Segway tours) | Sails in the Desert, Desert Gardens Hotel, Outback Pioneer Bar & Bottle shop, Ayers Rock Campground |
| SEIT small-group tours (sunrise, base walk) | “All Ayers Rock Resort hotels” |
| Hop On Hop Off pass | Desert Gardens, Sails in the Desert, Ayers Rock Resort Campground, Outback Hotel & Lodge |
| Helicopter flights (15 and 36 minutes) | Your hotel, by coach to Ayers Rock Airport |
If you are at Emu Walk Apartments or The Lost Camel Hotel, which these lists do not name, ask the operator which stop to use when you book. AAT Kings’ Viator listings add that campground guests are collected from the bus stop on the ring road, not at campground reception. The scenic plane flights meet at the Tourist Information Centre in Town Square, with hotel pickup also listed.
How early the pickups are
Sunrise tours leave in the dark. AAT Kings’ sunrise guided walk with breakfast departs one hour before sunrise, and SEIT picks up for its base walk about one hour before sunrise. Sunrise comes earliest in November and December and latest in June and July, so a summer sunrise pickup comes around 5 am. Evening departures follow the sunset in the same way: AAT Kings’ BBQ dinner under the stars departs 45 minutes before sunset.
Because times shift through the year, the operator confirms your exact pickup. AAT Kings asks guests to reconfirm 24 to 48 hours ahead and to be at the pickup point 10 minutes early. The park itself opens at 5 am in October and closes at 8 pm, with hours varying by month. For the full menu of dawn and dusk departures, see Uluru sunrise tours and Uluru sunset tours.
The day tour with sunset BBQ
The Emu Run tour is the simplest way to spend one afternoon and evening at the rock. After pickup, the coach goes to the Cultural Centre, built from 90,000 mud bricks with the help of the Anangu. Your guide then leads the Mala walk along the north-west face of Uluru, past rock art, and the short track to Mutitjulu Waterhole. At sunset the group eats a BBQ dinner with sparkling wine at the coach sunset viewing area. The Viator listing of the same tour puts the outing at about 7 hours.
The park pass is not included for tours from 1 April 2026, so buy it online and bring a copy. The operator suggests a fly net, a wide-brimmed hat, a one-litre water bottle and a travel pillow, plus cash for buying dot paintings directly from artists at sunset. It is not suitable for children under 2. Our day tour review has more on the walks and the BBQ.
The free shuttle, Hop On Hop Off and the park
The free resort shuttle links the hotels with Town Square. It does not go into the national park, and Yulara has no taxis or public transport. To reach Uluru or Kata Tjuta without a tour or a hire car, the option is the Uluru Hop On Hop Off pass, from $98 per person and rated 4.5 from 160 reviews. It comes as a 1, 2 or 3-day pass with pickup from the resort hotels and the campground. The 1 and 2-day passes include one return trip to Kata Tjuta, the 3-day pass two. You must pre-book every pickup time, timetables change monthly, and park entry is extra. Our page on Uluru without a car covers the rest.
Tours that fit a short stay
On arrival day, multi-day camping tours collect at the airport or resort in the early afternoon: Adventure Tours asks for a flight landing before 1:45 pm, and Autopia leaves Yulara between 1:30 and 1:55 pm. An afternoon arrival suits a sunset tour or the day tour above. On departure day, AAT Kings’ sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day advises flights after 1 pm from April to May and August to March, and after 1:30 pm in June and July. Its sunrise guided walk ends around 1 pm and may not connect with airport transfers. The 15-minute helicopter flight includes hotel transfers and is short enough to slot into most stays; see Uluru helicopter tours.

Ayers Rock Resort Tours: Questions
Pickups, start times and getting around Yulara, answered from the tour listings and the park's own figures.
Most tours collect you from your accommodation at Ayers Rock Resort, so there is no central departure point to find. Each listing names its own stops: the Emu Run day tour, for example, picks up at Sails in the Desert, Desert Gardens Hotel, the Outback Hotel and Ayers Rock Campground. The scenic plane flights meet at the Tourist Information Centre in Town Square.
Many do, but check the list. SEIT's small-group tours say all resort hotels. Several AAT Kings, Emu Run and Segway listings name four stops: Sails in the Desert, Desert Gardens, an Outback Hotel or Outback Pioneer stop, and the campground. Emu Walk Apartments and The Lost Camel Hotel are not named on those lists, so ask the operator which stop to use.
They follow the sun, so they change through the year. AAT Kings' sunrise guided walk departs one hour before sunrise, and SEIT's base walk picks up about an hour before sunrise. AAT Kings' BBQ dinner departs 45 minutes before sunset. The operator confirms your exact time; AAT Kings asks you to reconfirm 24 to 48 hours ahead. See Uluru sunrise tours.
Nearly all of the tours reviewed on this site: the sunrise, sunset and Kata Tjuta tours, the guided base walks, the Field of Light sunrise, the BBQ dinners, the Segway tours, the Kings Canyon day trip, the Hop On Hop Off pass and the 15 and 36-minute helicopter flights, which drive you to Ayers Rock Airport. Each listing names its pickup points, so check yours before booking.
Uluru is about 20 minutes' drive from Yulara, and the park entry station is about ten minutes from town. The main sunrise area, Talinguru Nyakunytjaku, is about 35 minutes away, and the Uluru sunset viewing areas are 15 to 20 minutes. Tours that collect you at the resort build these drive times into their schedules, so you only need to be ready at your stop.
Kata Tjuta is about 45 minutes' drive from Yulara, and 50 km by road from Uluru. That is why most visitors give it a separate morning or afternoon, or take a combined tour. AAT Kings' sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day collects from the resort and does both in one morning. See Uluru and Kata Tjuta day tours.
The free resort shuttle links the hotels with Town Square only and does not go into the national park. Yulara has no taxis or public transport. To reach Uluru without a tour or a hire car, use the Hop On Hop Off pass, from $98 per person, which collects from the resort hotels and campground. Park entry is extra. More on Uluru without a car.
An afternoon arrival suits a sunset tour or the Emu Run day tour with sunset BBQ. Multi-day camping tours collect in the early afternoon: Adventure Tours asks for a flight landing before 1:45 pm, and Autopia leaves Yulara between 1:30 and 1:55 pm. The airport is about ten minutes from Yulara. For overnight and longer trips, see Uluru 2 and 3-day tours.
With one night, take a sunset tour on arrival and a sunrise tour the next morning. AAT Kings' sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day advises flights after 1 pm from April to May and August to March, and after 1:30 pm in June and July. Its sunrise guided walk ends around 1 pm and may not connect with airport transfers, so allow time if you are flying out that day.
Yes. Professional Helicopter Services' 15-minute Uluru flight and its 36-minute sunset flight over Uluru and Kata Tjuta both include a coach transfer from your hotel to Ayers Rock Airport. The scenic plane flights also list hotel pickup. Helicopters do not fly over the top of Uluru or Kata Tjuta. Compare the flights on Uluru helicopter tours.
Most do not. The Emu Run day tour, AAT Kings' sunset tours and the Hop On Hop Off pass all list the park pass as extra, so buy it online before you go or at the entry station. Adults pay A$38 for a 3-day pass and under-18s enter free, with no child or family price. One pass covers every tour you take in those three days.
