After a lunch break in Yulara, your guide takes you to the Cultural Centre, the Mala walk on the north-west side of Uluru and the short track to Mutitjulu Waterhole.
Dinner is an Aussie BBQ with sparkling wine, beer or a soft drink at the coach sunset area. Then it is about five hours back to your Alice Springs accommodation.

Alice Springs Guide
What the 465 km day trip involves, when an overnight tour makes more sense, and the coach for travelers who want to stay at the resort.
You can see Uluru in a single day from Alice Springs, but it is a long one: the rock is 465 km away by road, and the day trip spends about five hours on the coach in each direction. The tour that does it is the Emu Run day trip to Uluru with BBQ dinner, from $279 per person and rated 4.7 from 850 reviews, the most-reviewed listing on this site. If you can give the trip a second day, an overnight camping tour trades the late drive home for a night near the rock and a sunrise.
The day trip collects you from your Alice Springs accommodation. The listing names 22 pickup points, from the big hotels to hostels and caravan parks, and the operator confirms your exact pickup time. The first stop is the roadhouse at Erldunda, where you buy breakfast. The coach then heads west past the Mount Conner lookout toward Yulara, where there is a short lunch break in the town centre at your own cost.
The afternoon is spent at Uluru. You start at the Cultural Centre, built with the help of the Anangu, then walk with your guide on the Mala walk along the north-west side of the rock, where the guide tells Anangu stories and points out rock art. The coach moves round to the Kuniya side for the short track to Mutitjulu Waterhole. At sunset the group gathers at the coach sunset viewing area for an Aussie BBQ with sparkling wine, beer or a soft drink. After dinner it is about five hours back to Alice Springs.
The Viator listing of the same tour puts the whole day at about 18 hours. Expect an early-morning pickup and a late-night return, and pack the pillow the listing suggests. Kata Tjuta is not on this itinerary.
| Option | From | Rating | Nights | Ends in | Sleep | Meals included |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emu Run day trip + BBQ | $279 per person | 4.7 (850 reviews) | 0 | Alice Springs | Your own bed | BBQ dinner |
| Autopia 2-day camping | $534 per person | 4.8 (59 reviews) | 1 | Yulara | Swag or eco tent | 1 breakfast, 2 lunches, 1 dinner |
| Adventure Tours 3-day camping | $555 per person | 4.8 (462 reviews) | 2 or 3 | Alice Springs or Yulara | Swag | All meals |
| Mulgas 4-day Rock to Rock | $586 per person | 4.9 (263 reviews) | 3 | The airport | Swag | All meals |
| AAT Kings coach transfer | $181 per person | 4.6 (129 reviews) | 0 | Ayers Rock Resort | Book your own | None |
Prices are the platforms’ US dollar “from” prices. The day trip is the cheapest of the touring options, but the camping tours include the park pass and most meals, which narrows the gap.
The Autopia Tours 2-day overnight camping trip leaves Alice Springs, stops at camp for lunch, then spends the afternoon at the Cultural Centre and on guided walks at the base of Uluru, including Mutitjulu Waterhole, Kuniya Piti and Kantju Gorge. You watch the sunset, eat at camp and sleep in a swag or a permanent eco tent, depending on the option you book. Day two starts at sunrise, then heads to Kata Tjuta for a walk in Walpa Gorge or the Valley of the Winds, depending on conditions.
It finishes at Yulara around 12:30 to 1:30 pm, not back in Alice Springs, and the operator says not to book a flight out before 2:15 pm. The park pass is included, guided walks add up to about 5 km, and you help with meals and camp duties. Swag sleepers need a sleeping bag. Our 2-day camping review goes through the night at camp.
The Adventure Tours Australia 3-day camping tour picks up in Alice Springs at about 6 am and covers Kata Tjuta, Uluru sunset and sunrise, the full Uluru base walk and the Kings Canyon Rim Walk. On the 2-night option you are back in Alice Springs at about 6 pm on day three. A strict 15 kg luggage limit applies. Autopia also sells a 3-day tour from Alice Springs from $625 per person, with no reviews yet.
The Mulgas 4-day Rock to Rock tour also picks up in Alice Springs at 6 am, adds nights at Kings Creek Station and Curtin Springs Station, and ends at the airport around 10 am on day four. It is aimed at travelers aged 18 to 49, with swags, firewood and shared cooking. Our Uluru 2 and 3-day tours page compares every multi-day option, and Kings Canyon tours from Uluru covers the canyon on its own.
If you would rather spend your time at Uluru than on the road back, the AAT Kings coach transfer to Ayers Rock Resort runs one way from $181 per person, rated 4.6 from 129 reviews, with commentary and a break at a roadhouse on the way. Emu Run’s one-way transfer picks up at about 7 am from March to November and 8 am from December to February, reaching the resort at about 12:30 pm or 1:30 pm. From there, short tours with resort pickup take over; our guide to tours from Ayers Rock Resort shows which ones collect from which hotels. Driving times, fuel stops and flights are covered in how to get to Uluru.

Pickup and duration: the day trip runs to about 18 hours, with about ten of them on the coach, so plan to sleep on the way down.
Walking and accessibility: the Mala walk is 2 km return on the park’s figures and the Kuniya walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole is 1 km return, both rated Grade 2 by the park. The camping tours ask for moderate fitness on rocky, uneven ground and are not suited to people with mobility impairments.
Park pass: adults pay A$38 for a 3-day pass and under-18s enter free. Buy it online before the day trip and bring a copy, digital is fine. The camping tours above include it.
Meals: on the day trip, only the sunset BBQ and drinks are included. Bring cash for breakfast at Erldunda and lunch in Yulara.
Cancellation: free up to 24 hours ahead on the day trip and the coach, 7 days on the Adventure Tours trip and 14 days on the Autopia and Mulgas tours.
Who it suits: the day trip fits travelers with one spare day in Alice Springs who want the rock, two walks and a sunset with no overnight bag. Anyone with two or more days will see more, including Kata Tjuta and a sunrise, on the camping trips.
Uluru is sacred to the Anangu, its Traditional Owners. Some sites along the walks are signposted as no-photography areas, and your guide will tell you where to put the camera away.
When you have a date, check availability for the Alice Springs day trip.

The long day trip, the overnight tours and the coach, answered from the tour listings and the park's own figures.
Yes, but it is a very long day. Uluru is 465 km from Alice Springs by road, and the Emu Run day trip spends about five hours on the coach each way. You get the Cultural Centre, two guided walks at the base of the rock and a sunset BBQ, then drive back the same night. The Viator listing of the same tour gives about 18 hours in total.
It suits travelers with only one spare day who want to stand at the base of Uluru and watch the sunset. The trade-off is about ten hours on the road and no Kata Tjuta or sunrise. With two days, the overnight camping tour, from $534 against $279, adds a night near the rock, a sunrise, a walk at Kata Tjuta, most meals and the park pass. See our 2 and 3-day tours page.
On the booking platforms, the day trip with BBQ dinner is from $279 per person, the 2-day overnight camping tour from $534, the Adventure Tours 3-day camping tour from $555 and the Mulgas 4-day trip from $586. The one-way coach transfer to Ayers Rock Resort is from $181. These are US dollar prices. Add A$38 per adult for the park pass where a tour does not include it.
The listing does not publish a fixed time: the operator confirms your pickup from your Alice Springs accommodation, with 22 pickup points listed. With about five hours of driving before lunch in Yulara and the return after the sunset BBQ, expect an early-morning start and a late-night drop-off back at your accommodation.
No. From 1 April 2026 the Emu Run day trip no longer includes the Uluru-Kata Tjuta park pass, so buy it online before the tour and bring a copy, a digital one is fine. Adults pay A$38 for 3 days and under-18s enter free. The Autopia, Adventure Tours and Mulgas camping tours list park fees as included. More on the park pass page.
Yes. Dinner is an Aussie BBQ at the Uluru coach sunset viewing area, with a glass of sparkling wine, a beer or a soft drink. Breakfast and lunch are not included: the coach stops at Erldunda Roadhouse, where you buy breakfast, and there is a lunch break in the Yulara town centre at your own cost, so bring some cash.
Not on the day trip, whose itinerary covers only Uluru. The Autopia 2-day camping tour spends its second morning at Kata Tjuta, with a walk in Walpa Gorge or the Valley of the Winds, and the 3 and 4-day tours include Kata Tjuta too. Kata Tjuta is 50 km by road from Uluru, so it needs its own half day. See Uluru and Kata Tjuta day tours.
Yes. Autopia's 2-day tour offers a bush swag or a permanent eco tent at its campground near Uluru. Adventure Tours Australia's 3-day trip sleeps in swags with a sleeping bag included, and the Mulgas 4-day trip uses swags at bush camps. On all of them you help with cooking and camp chores, and the walks need moderate fitness over rocky ground.
The day trip does not. Kings Canyon is about 450 km from Alice Springs and about three hours from Yulara, so it needs extra days. The Adventure Tours 3-day trip, Autopia's 3-day tour and the Mulgas 4-day trip from Alice Springs all include a morning at Kings Canyon, with the Rim Walk when conditions and fitness allow. Our Kings Canyon tours page covers the canyon itself.
Coach transfers run one way between Alice Springs and Ayers Rock Resort. AAT Kings' transfer is from $181 per person, rated 4.6 from 129 reviews, with commentary and a roadhouse stop. Emu Run's transfer picks up at about 7 am from March to November and 8 am from December to February, reaching the resort around 12:30 or 1:30 pm. See how to get to Uluru.
The day trip stops at Erldunda Roadhouse on the Stuart Highway, then follows the Lasseter Highway west, with a stop at the Mount Conner lookout. Mount Conner, called Atila, is a flat-topped mesa often mistaken for Uluru from a distance. Guides give commentary on the landscape, its wildlife and Aboriginal history along the way.
