Book Your Tour
The AAT Kings sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day fits the last morning of almost any Uluru itinerary, with time to make an afternoon flight.
The Experience
Sunrise at Uluru, the domes of Kata Tjuta and Walpa Gorge in one guided half day.
Book it for your first full morning, or your last one before the airport.
Pick the date in the booking box. On a departure day, AAT Kings notes that flights after 1:00 pm (1:30 pm in June and July) work with this tour.
The pass is not included. Adults pay A$38 for 3 days and under-18s enter free, so one pass can cover your whole stay.
Hotel pickup at Ayers Rock Resort before dawn, then tea or coffee at the sunrise viewing area as the light comes up.
Drive west to Kata Tjuta, stop at a viewing point and walk into Walpa Gorge with your guide before the coach heads back to Yulara.

Fill Your Itinerary
A guided base walk, a sunset with sacred sites, a barbecue under the stars and Kings Canyon for day three. Each card opens our review.
FULL BASE WALKA SEIT small-group trek around the full base of Uluru, starting before sunrise, with a picnic breakfast on the trail and stories of the Mala, Liru and Kuniya along the way. It suits walkers who can manage about 10 km on flat ground and want a guide's context for every section.
SACRED SITES + SUNSETAn AAT Kings coach afternoon that drives around the base of Uluru, walks the short Kuniya track to Mutitjulu Waterhole, stops at the Cultural Centre and ends with sunset drinks and nibbles. It suits first-time visitors who want culture and the sunset in one booking without much walking.
SUNSET BBQ DINNERAn AAT Kings evening that starts with sunset drinks and nibbles at Uluru, moves to a barbecue site among the dunes inside the park for dinner, and ends with a guide pointing out the southern stars. It suits travelers who want sunset, dinner and stargazing in one booking.
KINGS CANYON DAYA full-day coach trip from Ayers Rock Resort to Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park, with a cooked breakfast at Kings Creek Station and a choice of the Rim Walk or an easier canyon-floor walk. It suits fit walkers staying at Yulara with a spare day, and those happy to take the shorter option.
3 DAYS, PASSES INCLUDEDA three-day, two-night small-group camping tour that starts at Ayers Rock Airport or Yulara, covers Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon, and ends in Alice Springs (or back at Yulara by shuttle). It suits active travelers who want the three big Red Centre sights with walking and camp life.
Plan Your Days
What to do in each slot, what to book, and how flights and the park pass fit around it.
Two nights at Uluru is enough to see the essentials, and three gives you room for a long walk or a day trip to Kings Canyon. With one night you can still catch a sunset, a sunrise and Kata Tjuta if you book the right tours. Every plan below follows the same rhythm: walk and sightsee at dawn, rest in the middle of the day, and head back out for sunset. The adult park pass costs A$38 and is sold as a 3-day pass, which fits most of these plans; under-18s enter free.
Most visits to Uluru are made of four kinds of booking, and the itineraries simply put them in order.
| Slot | What happens | Tour to book |
|---|---|---|
| Sunrise | Dawn at the Talinguru Nyakunytjaku sunrise area | Sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day |
| Kata Tjuta | The 36 domes, Walpa Gorge or the Valley of the Winds | Kata Tjuta afternoon, small group |
| Base walk | 10.6 km around Uluru, best started at dawn | Full base walk at sunrise |
| Sunset | The rock changing color, often with drinks or dinner | Sacred sites and sunset |
Sunrise and the base walk both want an early start, so they cannot share a morning unless you book the base walk tour that starts before sunrise. Kata Tjuta is about 50 km by road from Uluru and about 45 minutes from Yulara, so give it its own half day.
Your flight times shape the plan more than anything else. AAT Kings notes on its sunrise and Kata Tjuta listing that its morning tour works with flights departing after 1:00 pm from April to May and August to March, and after 1:30 pm in June and July. That makes it the natural last-morning booking. Longer morning tours are tighter: the AAT Kings sunrise walk with breakfast ends at about 1:00 pm and may not get you back for the airport transfer. Ayers Rock Airport is about 10 minutes from the resort. Our how to get to Uluru page covers flights and the drive from Alice Springs.
This plan uses an arrival afternoon and a departure morning to see Uluru at sunset, Uluru at sunrise and Kata Tjuta.
| Time | Day 1: arrival | Day 2: departure |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Fly in | Sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day |
| Midday | Check in, buy the park pass | Back at the resort, fly out after 1:00 pm (1:30 pm Jun–Jul) |
| Afternoon | Sacred sites and sunset: base drive, Kuniya walk, Cultural Centre | |
| Evening | Sunset at Uluru with wine and cheese |
The sacred sites tour drives around the base of Uluru, walks the short Kuniya track to Mutitjulu Waterhole, stops at the Cultural Centre and ends at the sunset viewing area. Combined with the next morning, it covers both landmarks in under 24 hours. If you have no night to spare, a day trip from Alice Springs is the other option; see Uluru tours from Alice Springs.
Two nights adds the full walk around Uluru and an evening meal under the stars.
| Time | Day 1: arrival | Day 2 | Day 3: departure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Morning | Fly in | Full base walk at sunrise | Sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day |
| Midday | Check in | Rest at the resort | Fly out after 1:00 pm |
| Afternoon | Sacred sites and sunset | Free, or the Cultural Centre | |
| Evening | Sunset at Uluru | Sunset, BBQ dinner and star talk |
The SEIT base walk starts before sunrise, covers about 10.5 km with a picnic breakfast, and keeps the group small. If you would sooner see the base from the coach, swap day 1 for the Emu Run Uluru day tour with sunset BBQ, which walks the Mala and Mutitjulu tracks and visits the Cultural Centre. The barbecue dinner on Viator is listed for dates to the end of March 2027; the dinner under the stars page compares the other evening options.
Three nights gives you a whole day for Kings Canyon, about three hours’ drive from Yulara.
| Time | Day 1: arrival | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4: departure |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Morning | Fly in | Full base walk at sunrise | Kings Canyon full day | Sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day |
| Midday | Check in | Rest | Kings Canyon Rim Walk or creek walk | Fly out after 1:00 pm |
| Afternoon | Sacred sites and sunset | Kata Tjuta afternoon | Return drive | |
| Evening | Sunset at Uluru | Dinner at the resort or under the stars | Back at the resort |
The Kings Canyon day includes a cooked breakfast at Kings Creek Station and a choice of the 6 km Rim Walk or an easier walk along the canyon floor. Kings Canyon sits in Watarrka National Park, which needs its own NT Parks pass (A$10 per person per day, bought online; AAT Kings says it is included in the tour from 1 April 2027). Your Uluru park days here fall on days 1, 2 and 4, so check the pass terms when you buy, or take the A$50 annual adult pass. Fitter walkers can swap the Kata Tjuta afternoon for the five-hour Valley of the Winds circuit hike, best in the cooler months.
If you would rather hand the planning to someone else, the Autopia 3-day Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon adventure leaves Yulara between 1:30 and 1:55 pm, camps two nights and includes all national park fees. The 2 and 3 day tours page compares it with the other multi-day trips.
In summer, keep walks for the first hours after sunrise; the park asks walkers to finish by 11 am in hot weather, and the Valley of the Winds closes beyond Karu Lookout from 11 am when the temperature reaches 36°C. The Cultural Centre, open 7:00 am to 5:45 pm, makes a good indoor stop in the heat. Our best time to visit page has the month-by-month detail.
Without a car, every tour above includes pickup from Ayers Rock Resort hotels, and the Uluru without a car page covers the Hop On Hop Off bus for the gaps. With children, the sunrise and Kata Tjuta tour suits all ages and under-18s need no park pass, though the camping tours set a minimum age of 8.
Uluru and Kata Tjuta are sacred to Anangu, the Traditional Owners. Some sites are signposted as not to be photographed, and drones are banned in the park.
Our sunrise and Kata Tjuta review and Kings Canyon day trip review go into each tour in detail. To start building your plan, check availability for the sunrise and Kata Tjuta morning.

"Very good tour and the guides, Dani and Regi, were amazing. They were knowledgeable and friendly, and made sure the tour was prompt so we could visit everywhere with enough time to enjoy ourselves. Thanks for a great tour!"

"We were so happy to see the sunrise view in Uluru, and visit Kata Tjuṯa. If we didn’t join the tour, we would have missed the impressive scenery."
"Nice sunrise trip to see Uluru from a lookout and visit one of the valley of Kata Tjuta. Very kind driver and guide. The transfer was punctual. I got more informations about the wild life, the desert and the animals from the driver than in the zoo. Although I would prefer spend more time in every place we stopped. 30-30 more minutes would be enough. No time to soak up the beauty of the desert."
"Guides were friendly, professional, very informative and helpful. I think if it was a little less expensive more people might go on these tours. sunrise was epic!"
"The tour was very well organised! Our guides, Jim and Hayley, definitely made the trip feel extra special. They both had extensive knowledge about the area and culture. The sunrise lookout over Uluru was spectacular with many different areas to view the rock from. However, you don’t get as close to the rock as you would if you were walking, cycling or on segways. We then travelled to Kata Tjuṯa (the Olga’s) which exceeded our expectations! Within Kata Tjuṯa is Waḻpa Gorge - a breathtaking walk right inside of the rock formations. It is quite rocky and uneven - if you have accessibility issues, or even older like my grandmother, it’s definitely a rolled ankle waiting to happen. We then travelled to this stunning lookout that overlooked both Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa for a wonderful photo opportunity. This tour is definitely worth the money. It is organised, lovely staff and covered Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa at the perfect rate / quality."
"Informative and friendly staff who were professional and caring."

"We absolutely love every bit of it. From pick up, the drive, onboard commentary and hike experience"
"Awesome tour! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable!!!"

How many days, what to book and how to order sunrise, walks and sunset.
Two nights covers the essentials: sunset, sunrise, Kata Tjuta and the full base walk. Three nights adds a long walk at Kata Tjuta or a day trip to Kings Canyon. One night works if you book a sunset tour on arrival and a sunrise and Kata Tjuta tour the next morning. The adult park pass is sold as a 3-day pass, which suits most stays.
One day is enough for the highlights if you plan it tightly. Arrive, take a sacred sites and sunset tour in the afternoon, then the sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day the next morning. AAT Kings notes that flights after 1:00 pm (1:30 pm in June and July) work with that morning tour. You will miss the full base walk and the longer Kata Tjuta walks.
Yes. Three days lets you do the 10.6 km base walk, a sunrise, a sunset, Kata Tjuta and either the Valley of the Winds or a full-day trip to Kings Canyon, with time to rest in the middle of hot days. Our 2 and 3 day tours page covers guided trips that handle the whole plan, park fees included.
Day 1: arrive, then a sacred sites and sunset tour with the base drive, the Kuniya walk and the Cultural Centre. Day 2: a guided full base walk starting before sunrise, rest at midday, then a sunset barbecue dinner with a star talk. Day 3: the sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day before an afternoon flight. All of these include Ayers Rock Resort pickup.
Two or three nights suits most travelers. Two covers the main sights without rushing; three adds Kings Canyon or the Valley of the Winds. Most visitors stay at Yulara, the Ayers Rock Resort township, which is about 20 minutes from Uluru and 45 minutes from Kata Tjuta. Our where to stay page compares the hotels and the campground.
Add it if you have a third full day. Kings Canyon is about three hours' drive from Yulara, so the AAT Kings day tour is a long day with a cooked breakfast at Kings Creek Station and the 6 km Rim Walk or an easier canyon-floor walk. It needs a separate NT Parks pass. See Kings Canyon tours from Uluru.
Once you have the pass (A$38 for adults, free for under-18s), the walks are free: the base walk, the Mala and Kuniya walks, Walpa Gorge and the Valley of the Winds. The ranger-guided Mala walk is free too, starting at 8 am from October to April and 10 am from May to September. You need your own transport, or the Hop On Hop Off bus, to reach them.
Walk early and watch the light late. Book sunrise and long walks for the morning, since the park asks walkers to finish by 11 am in hot weather, and save sunset for the evening. Sunrise and the base walk both start at dawn, so give each its own morning, or take the base walk tour that starts before sunrise. Keep Kata Tjuta, 50 km from Uluru, for a separate half day.
Keep walks short and mornings early. The sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day is listed as suitable for all ages, and the Mala walk (2 km return) and the Kuniya walk (1 km return) are short, Grade 2 tracks. Under-18s enter the park free. Check age rules before booking evening extras: Sounds of Silence takes children 10 and over, and the camping tours set a minimum age of 8.
Yes. Every tour in these itineraries includes pickup from Ayers Rock Resort hotels, and the free resort shuttle links the hotels with Town Square. The shuttle does not go into the park, so for free walks on your own, use the Uluru Hop On Hop Off pass, sold for one, two or three days. Our Uluru without a car page has the detail.
Yes. Alice Springs is 465 km from Uluru by road, about 5.5 hours, so the drive takes most of a day and your first sunset is the earliest realistic booking. Roads inside the park are sealed and a 2WD is fine. Allow an extra night if you add Kings Canyon on the way. Our how to get to Uluru page covers the route.
Start at sunrise, finish any walk by 11 am, and spend the hottest hours indoors. The Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre is open 7:00 am to 5:45 pm. On days of 36°C or more, the Valley of the Winds closes beyond Karu Lookout from 11 am. Head back out late in the day for a sunset tour or a dinner under the stars once the heat eases.
