Uluru Dinner Under the Stars: Which Evening to Book
The BBQ tours, Sounds of Silence, Tali Wiru and Wintjiri Wiru side by side.
The all-in-one evening is the AAT Kings Uluru sunset, outback BBQ dinner and star talk, from $233 per person and rated 4.2 from 445 reviews. It covers the three things most people want from a night at Uluru: drinks while the rock changes color, dinner outdoors among the dunes, and a guide pointing out the southern sky. For a smaller budget there is a BBQ without the sunset stop, and for a splurge Ayers Rock Resort runs its own dinners, Sounds of Silence and Tali Wiru.
The BBQ tours
Three bookable tours end with a BBQ. They differ in how much of the day they take and whether the sunset comes first.
| Tour | Sunset | Dinner | Night sky | Time | From | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunset + outback BBQ & star talk | ✓ With wine and nibbles | Australian meats, salads, dessert; wine, beer, soft drinks | ✓ Star talk with spotlight | 3.5 hours | $233 per person | 4.2 (445 reviews) |
| BBQ dinner under the stars | No viewing-area stop listed; leaves 45 min before sunset | Steak, sausages, chicken skewers, kangaroo, salads, dessert; beer, wine, soft drinks | ✓ Stories of the night sky | Evening | $153 per person | 4.5 (83 reviews) |
| Uluru day tour with sunset BBQ (Emu Run) | ✓ At the coach sunset area | BBQ dinner with sparkling wine | Not listed | 7 hours | $230 per person | 4.6 (346 reviews) |
The sunset, BBQ and star talk tour is also sold on GetYourGuide as a twin listing, from $229, where the menu is spelled out: steak, kangaroo, lamb sausages, chicken skewers, salads and dessert. Menus change, so treat the list as a guide.
The BBQ dinner under the stars is the lowest-priced of the three at $153. It departs about 45 minutes before sunset and heads to the dinner site in the park; no stop at a sunset viewing area is listed, but you keep the stars and the stories. The Emu Run Uluru day tour with sunset BBQ is a full afternoon and evening: the Cultural Centre, the guided Mala walk, Mutitjulu Waterhole, then sparkling wine and a BBQ as the sun goes down. It suits a first visit with only one day at the rock. If you are coming from Alice Springs, the Emu Run day trip with BBQ dinner does the same in one very long day; see Uluru tours from Alice Springs.
The resort dinners: Sounds of Silence, Tali Wiru and Wintjiri Wiru
Ayers Rock Resort runs its own evening dinners, sold through the resort. The prices below are the resort’s gate prices in Australian dollars, not the US dollar platform prices above.
| Dinner | Format | Time | Ages | Price (AUD) | Season |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sounds of Silence | Canapés and sparkling wine on a dune, three-course bush tucker-inspired buffet, wine and beer, guided night-sky tour | About 4 hours | 10+ | A$295 adult, A$150 child | Travel 1 Apr 2026 to 31 Mar 2027 |
| Tali Wiru | Four-course dinner on a dune with native Australian ingredients, tables for two | About 4.25 hours | 16+ | A$455 | April to October; ends 27 Oct 2026 |
| Wintjiri Wiru Sunset Dinner | Dinner with a 20-minute drone, laser and projection show telling the Mala story | About 3 hours | 5+ | A$315 adult, A$135 child | Check with the resort |
| Wintjiri Wiru After Dark | Show only | About 1.5 hours | – | A$210 adult, A$105 child | Closed until 1 May 2027 |
Sounds of Silence is the large shared dinner: it leaves about an hour before sunset, seats guests at shared tables of up to 10 and includes return transfers. Reaching the dune top means a walk of about 300 m uphill over an uneven path and soft sand, so it is not fully wheelchair accessible. Tali Wiru is the small, premium version with tables for two, and it runs only from April to October, with this season ending on 27 October 2026. Wintjiri Wiru’s After Dark show is closed until 1 May 2027, and the Sunset Dinner version is listed for sale, so confirm the date you want directly with the resort before planning around it.
How to choose: the BBQ tours cost less and run with a driver guide from your hotel; Sounds of Silence adds canapés on a dune top and a three-course buffet; Tali Wiru is for couples who want a quieter table; Wintjiri Wiru is the one with a show.

The BBQ site sits inside Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, among red sand dunes and desert oaks, far enough from the resort lights for a clear view of the southern sky. The star talk depends on the weather. Strollers can come along, and infants sit on an adult’s lap. The tour’s listing shows dates through March 2027.
Desert nights are cold from May to September, with average July minimums of 4.4°C at Yulara, so bring a warm layer even after a hot day. Emu Run asks for casual, comfortable clothes: light in summer, warm in winter. Vegetarian and gluten-free meals can be arranged on the Emu Run tour if you ask when booking.
Buy the park pass before you go; our park pass guide explains how. If you only want the sunset with a glass of wine and no dinner, our Uluru sunset tours page compares the shorter options, and the Field of Light page covers the resort’s Uluru Dinner ticket among the lights.
Stars without dinner
If the night sky matters more than the meal, the Uluru astronomy tour with telescope and photo uses telescopes and binoculars away from the resort lights, from $90 per person. More evening ideas are on things to do in Uluru.

What Uluru BBQ Dinner Guests Say
Ratings and review counts are each platform's live figures (GetYourGuide or Viator) as of October 2026 and may shift slightly day to day.
"Lightning & Thunderstorms cancelled the BBQ part of this tour but the little bit of sunset & snacks provided were outstanding (especially the chutney)"
"Was such a great experience would love to do this again. I went solo and had an amazing time. If you want a one night getaway then I suggest you book this tour."
"The whole trip was thoroughly enjoyable. Picked up promptly at designated time, driver and guide was really knowledgeable and kept us entertained and informed with lots of fun facts. Shout out to Rachel and Kevin. The cultural c"
"Great tour. Dinner was very good and astronomy was amazing . Staff was excellent. Don't book during a full moon as you won't see most of the stars"
"Loved the astronomy lesson. The guide was very knowledgeable. Food was ok. They never seem to have enough food. Loved the location at the base of rock."
"I would like to rate this experience but it was cancelled 4 days out due to “operational considerations”. What operational considerations are there on a bar-b-que? Did you run short of charcoal? Ridiculous. It ran the day before and after but that conflicted with other plans. Just be aware a booking eight months in advance means nothing."
"Spectacular sunset viewing with some wine and cheese nibbles. Then off to dinner at the base of Uluru. Lovely atmosphere as darkness surrounded us . After dinner talk on the stars very well presented."

Uluru Dinner Under the Stars: Questions
BBQ tours and resort dinners compared: prices, ages, seasons and what is served.
For sunset, dinner and stars in one evening at a moderate price, the AAT Kings sunset, outback BBQ and star talk is from $233 per person with hotel pickup. Sounds of Silence is the resort's larger dune-top buffet, Tali Wiru the small premium dinner for ages 16+, and Wintjiri Wiru the one with a drone show. See the BBQ tour comparison.
Sounds of Silence is about four hours, with canapés on a dune, a three-course bush tucker-inspired buffet at shared tables of up to 10 and a night-sky tour. Tali Wiru is a four-course dinner on a dune at tables for two, ages 16+, April to October only. Wintjiri Wiru pairs dinner with a 20-minute drone, laser and projection show telling the Mala story.
Ayers Rock Resort lists Sounds of Silence at A$295 per adult and A$150 per child, in Australian dollars, for travel from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. That covers canapés and sparkling wine at sunset, the buffet, wine and beer at the table, the guided night-sky tour and return transfers. The BBQ tours on this site are priced in US dollars.
It depends on the dinner. Sounds of Silence takes children aged 10 and over, Tali Wiru is for ages 16 and over, and the Wintjiri Wiru Sunset Dinner is for ages 5 and over. On the AAT Kings sunset, BBQ and star talk, infants sit on an adult's lap and strollers can come along. The Emu Run day tour with sunset BBQ is not suitable for children under 2.
Dress for a desert night. Temperatures fall fast after sunset, and the average July minimum at Yulara is 4.4°C, so bring a warm layer from May to September even after a warm day. Emu Run asks for casual, comfortable clothes. Sounds of Silence involves a 300 m uphill walk over an uneven path and soft sand, so wear flat shoes.
Tali Wiru runs only from April to October, and this season's listed travel window ends on 27 October 2026. There is no listed date for it between November and March. It is a four-course dinner on a dune with native Australian ingredients, about 4.25 hours long, at A$455 per person in Australian dollars, for guests aged 16 and over.
Wintjiri Wiru is a drone, laser and projection show near Uluru that tells the Mala story. The After Dark show is closed and is due to reopen on 1 May 2027. The Sunset Dinner version, about three hours with a 20-minute show, is listed at A$315 per adult and A$135 per child. Check your date with Ayers Rock Resort before planning around it.
Yes. The AAT Kings BBQ dinner under the stars is from $153 per person, with hotel pickup, steak, kangaroo, sausages, chicken skewers, salads, dessert and drinks, and stories of the night sky. It leaves about 45 minutes before sunset and no sunset viewing-area stop is listed. Our BBQ dinner review has the detail.
Yes. Emu Run Experience runs a day trip from Alice Springs to Uluru with a BBQ dinner at sunset and sparkling wine, from $279 per person. It is a very long day: Alice Springs is 465 km from Uluru, about 5.5 hours each way by road. Our tours from Alice Springs page compares it with overnight options.
Yes, on the AAT Kings tours. After dinner on the sunset, BBQ and star talk, your guide points out the visible constellations with a high-beam spotlight and explains Aboriginal stories that relate to the stars, weather permitting. The BBQ dinner under the stars has a similar session. For telescopes, see the astronomy tour on things to do in Uluru.
On the Emu Run day tour with sunset BBQ, vegetarian and gluten-free options are available if you ask when booking. The AAT Kings BBQ menus are mainly Australian meats with salads and are subject to change, so contact the operator with any dietary needs before the day. For Sounds of Silence or Tali Wiru, raise them with Ayers Rock Resort when you book.
Yes for the tours on this page: the AAT Kings sunset, BBQ and star talk and the BBQ dinner under the stars both include pickup from Ayers Rock Resort hotels, as does the Emu Run day tour. Sounds of Silence includes return transfers. None of the BBQ tours includes the A$38 adult park pass, which you buy separately.
