About This Experience

This tour walks the whole way around Uluru with a guide. Pickup from your Ayers Rock Resort hotel is about an hour before sunrise, in a small vehicle that seats a maximum of 15 people, and you drive into the park as the rock appears in the dawn light.

You start walking before the sun comes up and stop at a spot by the base of the rock to watch the light change across the landscape. From there you continue around the base walk, which the park measures at 10.6 km and about 3.5 hours of walking. The track is flat but long.

Along the way you visit waterholes and rock art sites. On the Kuniya walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole your guide tells the Tjukurpa of Liru and Kuniya, and on the Mala walk to Kantju Gorge you hear the story of the Mala people. Guides cover Anangu culture and survival, geology, plants and wildlife.

Breakfast is an outback picnic carried in a pack, with tea and coffee, eaten at a break on the trail. Optional audio guides are available in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Mandarin. When you finish, your guide drives you back to your accommodation.

  • In hot weather the park advises walking only in the cooler morning hours and finishing before 11 am; this tour's sunrise start fits that.
  • Parts of the base walk had storm-damage repairs in 2026 and some sections can close. Check uluru.gov.au news or the park app before your day.
  • Some sacred sites along the base are marked with no-photography signs. Follow them and ask before photographing people.
  • Tell SEIT about any dietary requirements when you book. The infant price includes touring and car seat hire.
