About This Experience

Autopia Tours picks you up from your Alice Springs accommodation and drives south through the desert toward Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, with the guide talking about the region's history, geology, wildlife and Aboriginal heritage on the way. After lunch at camp, the group collects guests joining at Ayers Rock Resort and heads into the park.

The afternoon starts at the Cultural Centre, where you learn about the living culture of Anangu, the Traditional Owners. Guided walks at the base of Uluru then take in Mutitjulu Waterhole, Kuniya Piti and Kantju Gorge, with rock art and the stories connected to these places. You watch sunset at Uluru before returning to camp for dinner.

You sleep at the operator's private campground near Uluru, choosing either a traditional canvas bush swag or a permanent eco tent with a mattress, sheets and pillow. Bathrooms are shared, and everyone helps with meal preparation and basic camp duties. Swag guests need their own sleeping bag.

Day 2 starts early for sunrise. After breakfast the group drives to Kata Tjuta for a guided walk through Walpa Gorge or the Valley of the Winds, depending on conditions. The tour ends at Yulara / Ayers Rock Resort at about 12:30 to 1:30 pm, so do not book a flight out before 2:15 pm.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.8/5 by 59 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

Great couple of days. Pick up from Alice Springs meant a great drive across country I wouldn’t otherwise have seen. Well planned walks around Uluru and Valley of Winds. Well organised camping (albeit without any view of Uluru). Food simple but good, especially enjoyed snacks and drinks watching sunset

Great few days, we learnt a lot about the history and geology of Australia. The commentary from Alice springs to Uluru made the 6 hour journey go by very quickly. Amazing tour guide and brilliant tour, highly recommend.

There are good guides and tours, and then there is Johnny! What an incredible, fun, real and knowledgeable human! His passion for what he does, and his vast knowledge of astronomy, history, culture and geology was nothing short of impressive. However, the coolest thing about him during our adventure, was the taking to him that our kids (particularly our boy) had, and the impact he made on them. They loved the experience. Thank you!
