More Ways to Tour
A small-group sunrise, an Aboriginal-hosted day, a sunset tour, a helicopter flight and a camping trip. Each card opens our review.
SMALL GROUPA three-hour SEIT small-group morning at Uluru: sunrise from a spot your guide picks, an outback picnic breakfast, the short Kuniya walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole and a drive around the base. It suits travelers short on time and those who want an easy, low-walking introduction.
ABORIGINAL HOSTA small-group 4WD day with SEIT in which members of the Traditional Uluru family host you on their homelands and share their culture and family history. It suits travelers who want time with Aboriginal hosts beyond the main sights, and who can manage moderate walking.
SUNSETAn AAT Kings coach afternoon that drives around the base of Uluru, walks the short Kuniya track to Mutitjulu Waterhole, stops at the Cultural Centre and ends with sunset drinks and nibbles. It suits first-time visitors who want culture and the sunset in one booking without much walking.
HELICOPTERA short 15-minute helicopter flight focused on Uluru, with return coach transfers from your hotel to Ayers Rock Airport. It suits travelers who want Uluru from the air at the lowest price of the three helicopter flights on this site.
3-DAY CAMPINGA three-day camping tour with Adventure Tours Australia covering Kata Tjuta, Uluru at sunset and sunrise, the full Uluru base walk and the Kings Canyon Rim Walk, sleeping in swags by the campfire. It starts and ends in Alice Springs or Yulara and suits fit, social travelers on a budget.
Tour Types
Small group, coach, cultural, sunrise and sunset, flights, adventure, private and multi-day.
For most visitors the best all-round Uluru tour is SEIT’s small-group afternoon tour, which finishes at sunset, or the AAT Kings sunrise tour if you also want Kata Tjuta. Add the free ranger-guided Mala walk for culture at no cost, and budget A$38 per adult for the park pass, because almost none of these tours include it.
The tour you choose shapes the whole trip. Uluru is about 20 minutes’ drive from Ayers Rock Resort in Yulara, the best light lasts only a few minutes at each end of the day, and the stories that make the rock meaningful belong to Anangu, the Traditional Owners. A good guide ties those three things together. A poor booking leaves you looking at a big red rock from a car park.
We compared every main type of Uluru tour running in October 2026: small-group, coach, Aboriginal-hosted, sunrise and sunset, helicopter, camel, Segway, bike, multi-day and the new guided Signature Walk. Prices in Australian dollars come from the operators and Ayers Rock Resort; where we link a listing, the US dollar price is the platform’s “from” price. New to the Red Centre? SEIT Outback Australia is the small-group specialist at Uluru, based at the Tour and Information Centre in the resort’s Town Square. Its signature tour, SEIT Uluru with sunset refreshments, is A$249 for about 5 hours (listing from $174, rated 4.8 from 219 reviews). It leaves the resort between 2 pm and 3.30 pm depending on the season, covers the base of the rock with a guide and finishes at sunset. Groups are capped at 15 and the walking is easy.
With only a morning to spare, the SEIT Highlights tour (A$189, about 3 hours, listing from $132, rated 4.7 from 279 reviews) catches sunrise, includes an outback picnic breakfast and a short walk to Mutitjulu Waterhole, and has you back at the resort by mid-morning. It departs between 4.45 am and 6.15 am depending on the time of year.
The SEIT base trek (A$249, about 6 hours, listing from $174, rated 4.8 from 273 reviews) walks the full base of Uluru, roughly 10 km, starting at sunrise. The minimum age is 5.
SEIT also runs Kata Tjuta tours, including the Valley of the Winds circuit hike (A$239, April to October, listing from $174; the listing is rated 4.5 from only 25 reviews, so treat that rating as early). See our Kata Tjuta tours and Uluru base walk pages if you would rather walk independently.
This is the tour for anyone who wants an Aboriginal-hosted day rather than general sightseeing. Patji is the homeland of the Uluru family, just outside the national park to the south of the rock. Over about 7 hours (A$399, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays), a member of the family travels with you by 4WD and shares personal and family history, including how Paddy Uluru fought for land rights, before you finish on a private sand dune overlooking Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Our Aboriginal Homelands Experience review covers the listing, which is from $283 and rated 4.8 from 44 reviews on Viator.
Maruku Arts runs a 1.5-hour dot painting workshop with Anangu artists in the resort’s Town Square (from A$79 adult, A$39 child, A$219 family). You learn traditional symbols and paint your own story to take home. Inside the park, Parks Australia now lists a separate premium dot painting experience at the Cultural Centre, run by the Mutitjulu community-owned Ininti Cafe and Walkatjara Art. It takes group bookings only.
Wintjiri Wiru uses 1,200 drones, plus lasers and projection, to tell a chapter of the Mala story. Voyages says it was made after three years of consultation with the Anangu-led Wintjiri Wiru Working Group. Options start at A$210 (Twilight or After Dark) and A$315 for the Sunset Dinner. It was named Oceania’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the 2026 World Travel Awards, its third win in a row.
Every day a park ranger leads a free 2 km walk from the Mala car park along the north-west face of Uluru to Kantju Gorge, explaining the Mala story, the rock art and how the park is jointly managed. It starts at 8 am from October to April and 10 am from May to September, takes about 1.5 hours and is wheelchair-accessible. Visit the Cultural Centre first, then do this walk. As a cheap Uluru tour, nothing else comes close.
AAT Kings is the big coach operator at Uluru. It has the widest choice of departures, comfortable coaches and, on some tours, multilingual devices in German, Italian, Spanish, French and Mandarin.
This tour has sunrise at the Talinguru Nyakunytjaku viewing area with tea and coffee, then Kata Tjuta for the Walpa Gorge walk. It takes about 5 hours and costs A$219 for travel from June to October 2026 and A$209 from November 2026 to March 2027, with a version that includes the park pass at A$247. The listing on GetYourGuide is from $130, rated 4.6 from 605 reviews, and our review has the detail.
This half-day tour visits the Cultural Centre, drives around the base, walks to Mutitjulu Waterhole and ends with sparkling wine at the sunset viewing area. It is graded leisurely and costs A$219 (June to October) or A$209 (November to March), and you can add a BBQ dinner under the stars. The Sacred Sites and Sunset listing is from $130, rated 4.5 from 517 reviews.
For timings and viewing areas, see Uluru sunrise tours, Uluru sunset tours and Field of Light tours.
Seeing Uluru and Kata Tjuta together from the air explains the landscape in a way nothing on the ground can. Our Uluru helicopter tours page has the full comparison.
Flights never pass over the top of Uluru or Kata Tjuta, out of respect for their cultural significance.
Founded in 1998 and based at the resort, Uluru Camel Tours runs Camel to Sunrise and Camel to Sunset rides for A$165 per person, with about an hour of riding plus refreshments. The 45-minute Camel Express is A$98. Children under 5 cannot ride, and there is a weight limit. You book it with the operator.
The Best of Uluru Segway and walking tour (A$219, about 4 hours, listing from $153, rated 4.8 from 294 reviews) combines a walk at the rock’s most scenic section with a Segway ride. The full base ride is the Segway tour at sunrise (A$259, listing from $181, rated 4.9 from 446 reviews). Neither suits children aged 11 and under, and the park pass is extra. See Uluru Segway tours.
Hire a bike and ride the loop around the base at your own pace, from A$80 for 3 hours including a helmet, or A$129 with resort transfers (March to November). It is a cheap Uluru tour alternative if you are active.
Ride pillion on a Harley or a three-wheel trike, from about A$139 for a short spin to A$229 for an Uluru sunset ride. These prices match older published rate sheets, and we could not confirm a 2026 price list, so check with the operator or the resort tour desk before you book.
Private tours suit families, photographers and travelers with mobility needs. SEIT runs groups and charters, and some operators list Aboriginal-guided private tours from around A$1,100 per group of up to 6 (about 4 hours). Expect to pay A$1,000 or more for a half-day private vehicle and guide. Ask whether the guide is Anangu or non-Aboriginal, and whether the park pass is included.
Uluru is 465 km from Alice Springs, so a day trip is a very long day. Most travelers coming from Alice Springs are better off with a 3-day tour that adds Kings Canyon. See Uluru tours from Alice Springs and Uluru 2 and 3 day tours.
The Tasmanian Walking Company opened this five-day, 54 km guided walk in 2026, along a new trail from Kata Tjuta to Uluru. Guests stay in eco-camps and a private lodge inside the national park. The price is from A$5,395 per person twin share, including all meals, guides and the park pass. Groups are capped at 16 and the season runs in the cooler months. A shorter 4-day Lodge Walk is from A$3,995. A direct per-guest contribution is shared between park upkeep, Traditional Owner payments and an Anangu business development fund.
The best Uluru tours for seniors are AAT Kings’ leisurely tours (Sacred Sites and Sunset, Uluru Sunset, Sunrise Field of Light), where most of the sightseeing is from the coach or on short paths. The Mala walk is wheelchair-accessible and free. Evening experiences such as Sounds of Silence and Wintjiri Wiru involve very little walking. Avoid camel rides and helicopters if stepping up is difficult, and tell your operator about any needs when you book.
With a hire car you can do most of this yourself. Without one, Uluru Hop On Hop Off runs a fixed timetable from the resort: an Uluru return from A$54, a 1-day pass with one Kata Tjuta transfer from A$140 and 3-day passes from A$230. Pair it with the free Mala walk, the Cultural Centre and our things to do in Uluru list, and read Uluru without a car for the transport detail. Heading on afterwards? See Kings Canyon tours from Uluru and how to get to Uluru.
Climbing Uluru has been banned since October 2019. Some sensitive sites around the base must not be photographed, so follow the signs and your guide.

"Very good tour and the guides, Dani and Regi, were amazing. They were knowledgeable and friendly, and made sure the tour was prompt so we could visit everywhere with enough time to enjoy ourselves. Thanks for a great tour!"

"We were so happy to see the sunrise view in Uluru, and visit Kata Tjuṯa. If we didn’t join the tour, we would have missed the impressive scenery."
"Nice sunrise trip to see Uluru from a lookout and visit one of the valley of Kata Tjuta. Very kind driver and guide. The transfer was punctual. I got more informations about the wild life, the desert and the animals from the driver than in the zoo. Although I would prefer spend more time in every place we stopped. 30-30 more minutes would be enough. No time to soak up the beauty of the desert."
"Guides were friendly, professional, very informative and helpful. I think if it was a little less expensive more people might go on these tours. sunrise was epic!"
"The tour was very well organised! Our guides, Jim and Hayley, definitely made the trip feel extra special. They both had extensive knowledge about the area and culture. The sunrise lookout over Uluru was spectacular with many different areas to view the rock from. However, you don’t get as close to the rock as you would if you were walking, cycling or on segways. We then travelled to Kata Tjuṯa (the Olga’s) which exceeded our expectations! Within Kata Tjuṯa is Waḻpa Gorge - a breathtaking walk right inside of the rock formations. It is quite rocky and uneven - if you have accessibility issues, or even older like my grandmother, it’s definitely a rolled ankle waiting to happen. We then travelled to this stunning lookout that overlooked both Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa for a wonderful photo opportunity. This tour is definitely worth the money. It is organised, lovely staff and covered Uluru and Kata Tjuṯa at the perfect rate / quality."
"Informative and friendly staff who were professional and caring."

"We absolutely love every bit of it. From pick up, the drive, onboard commentary and hike experience"
"Awesome tour! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable!!!"

For most visitors, SEIT's small-group afternoon tour (from A$249) is the best all-round Uluru tour, and the AAT Kings sunrise and Kata Tjuta coach tour is the best if you want both landmarks in one morning. For culture, choose SEIT Patji. On a budget, use the free ranger-guided Mala walk.
Usually not. SEIT, AAT Kings base fares, Segway tours, Hop On Hop Off and Emu Run (since April 2026) all exclude the A$38 adult pass. AAT Kings' Piti Pass, the Signature Walk and some 3-day tours from Alice Springs include it. See the park pass page.
Yes, but it is a long day of about 930 km there and back. Emu Run's one-day tour is from A$345. A 3-day tour is better value. See Uluru tours from Alice Springs.
The ranger-guided Mala walk is free. A Hop On Hop Off Uluru return is A$54, bike hire is A$80 and the AAT Kings Uluru Sunset tour is from A$109.
AAT Kings' leisurely coach tours, the wheelchair-accessible Mala walk, the Field of Light and Sounds of Silence. All involve short, easy paths.
Yes. SEIT Patji is hosted by a member of the Uluru family, rangers lead the free Mala walk and Anangu artists run dot painting workshops. See our Aboriginal Homelands Experience review.
Almost all Uluru tours pick up from every Ayers Rock Resort hotel in Yulara and from the campground. Airport pickups are limited to multi-day tours and transfers, so plan your first tour for after you check in.
Both sell the same products with flexible cancellation on most. Book direct with SEIT or AAT Kings, or at the resort tour desk, when you want easier changes.
